A three-year project to protect threatened wild pear species is launched

On the 1st of August, the Armenian Society of Biologists NGO with financial support of the Fondation Franklinia initiate the three-year project “Protection of threatened pear species and securing viability of their populations in Armenia”. The main goal of the project is to protect five globally threatened endemic pear species in their habitats and to increase the viability of their populations in Armenia.

Armenia is one of the worldwide centers of wild pear genetic diversity. The high level of endemism and species richness of wild pears is especially remarkable in Vayots Dzor province, where the project implementation sites are located.
